Zuni Carved Wolf Fetish by Leonard Halate (dec)

This older wolf fetish was carved from Picasso Marble and accented with turquoise eyes and an offering bundle by Zuni fetish carver Leonard Halate. These bundles are meant as a gift offering to the animal spirit. The bundles provide the animal spirit with energy, enhancing its powers and allowing its prayers to be heard more easily. This primitive style is how Leonard believed the fetishes should be carved, not the more highly detailed and realistic items one sees today.

Wolf is guardian of the East. The wolf symbolizes the ability to work as a team. Given to newlyweds to guide that couple into the same strong family bond of the wolf and the concept of mating for life. Wolf is a teacher and a pathfinder. The offering bundles are meant as a gift offering to the animal spirit. The bundles provide the animal spirit with energy, enhancing its powers and allowing its prayers to be heard more easily.
