Ted Pavatea

Ted Pavatea (1952- ) is from Tewa Village (Hano), AZ. He is the son of Garnet Pavatea (potter) and Womak Pavatea (carver). He works in various mediums, carvings, paintings, drawings and even book illustration. He attended the Institute of American Indian Arts in Santa Fe, NM. His favorite figures to carve are the clowns and he does a wonderful job of capturing their different personalities as they get into mischief. Ted comments "As an artist, I find it rewarding and educational, knowing the effects of creativity in the air, and the feel for it. I get my inspiration from my mother who used to tell me, 'Make the most of your gifted talent. If you are not lazy, you will find rewards in your hands.' I find this at times is very true....
