Zuni Carved Corn Maiden Fetish by Claudia Peina

This beautiful corn maiden with her hair in squash blossoms was carved from antler with turquoise and coral accents by Zuni fetish carver Claudia Peina. A fabulous piece of artwork by this carver. The Corn Maiden brings corn to the people and with it comes the power of life. As the corn is given life by the sun, the corn maiden brings the fire of the sun into humans, making them as the Creator designed them to be. Each maiden brings one seed of corn that is nurtured with love like that given to a child, that this one seed would sustain the entire tribe forever. With love and strength from the tribe, the tiny seeds mature and grow tall and strong, soon offering mature ears of corn for an abundance of the crop for the people. This beautiful carving with the maiden wearing her hair in traditional whorls, adorned with coral necklace. Her cloak is polished antler and has a wonderful, warm brown finish.
