Description

Vintage Native American Made Clay Pipe with Two Stems

This older fully functional pipe came from a private collection. The pipe was created with a clay bowl and two stems. One is a beaded wooden stem with cork where the bowl attaches to the stem. The other stem is also wood, that has been wood burned. The thicker end goes into the pipe bowl. This pipe was handcrafted by an unknown Native American. The bowl is 2.75 in. long and 1.25 in. tall. The bowl has a few chips in it, from age and being used.

The collector shared this story she got from the maker. "As per Native American lore, you don't keep the bowl and stem stored together and you always store the bowl with a sage leaf in it. The stem is the male part and the bowl is the female part. The sage keeps the female part from hearing what is said about her."

Dimensions:
