Old Style Hopi Carved Hemis Traditional Home Going Katsina Doll
Description
Old Style Hopi Carved Hemis Traditional Home Going Katsina Doll by John Fredericks
Hemis Katsina appears at the Home Going (Niman) ceremony in late summer. Originally from Jemez Pueblo, he is an important figure in bringing rain prior to harvest. He is the Katsina who brings the grown corn to the people, ensuring a good harvest. This is a more primitive carving by John, much like the carvings done in earlier times.
