Native American Zuni Handbuilt and Handpainted Small Pot with Deer
Description
Native American Zuni Handbuilt and Handpainted Traditional Small Pot with Deer by Carlos Laate
Carlos Laate of Zuni Pueblo is the nephew of Jennie Laate who taught pottery at Zuni High school for many years. The Zuni pottery heritage was nearly lost when Jennie (Acoma) began teaching. Carlos is one of many who has inherited a full and rich revived tradition thanks to the efforts of those who came before him. Carlos learned how to make pottery from Jennie and from his grandmother, Daisy Hooee. He has been an active potter since 1987. This particular pot is created with a reddish clay that creates the beautiful warm background for the traditional paintings of the "deer in his house."
