Native American Navajo Fine Etched Horsehair Four Corners Pot
Description
Native American Navajo Fine Etched Horsehair Four Corners Pot by Hilda Whitegoat
This intricately etched large four corners pot has four focal medallions, each with an important symbol for the Native people. The turtle is a symbol for longevity and for water, a scarce resource in the desert southwest. It is believed by many Native Americans that we are living on the back of a turtle. The dragonfly appears in summer and is an indication that water is near. They are a celebration of the summer rains. The buffalo represents good medicine, the fulfillment of powers, and steadfast endurance. Bear is associated with great strength and is considered a powerful healer. The butterflies that surround the opening are an indicator of summer and the plants that flourish. This piece will surely be a focal point.
