Native American Made Parrot Dancer Katsina Doll
Description
Native American Made Parrot Dancer Katsina Doll by Sammie Walker (Navajo-Hopi)
The Parrot Katsina is one of several bird Katsinam credited with bringing abundant summer growth to the corn crops on the Mesas. The feathers of the parrot were prized by Paleo-Indian groups. Feathers and even live parrots were traded from Central America as far north as the Four Corners area. The action is wonderful and the carving, painting and details are very accurate.
