Like most animal Katsinam, the Deer Dancer (Sowi-ingwa) is a social dancer. He helps to ensure that game is plentiful and that sufficient snow comes in the winter to allow a good harvest the following year. This is a wonderful piece that is created in a style that is unusual today. Very few of the artists make the Native American dolls this way. The action is wonderful and the carving, painting and details are very accurate.
