1950s Native American Zuni Made Bird Squash Necklace and Earrings by Irvin Leekity
This important original beautiful inlaid bird squash necklace was created between 1948 and 1962, before many of the Native Americans signed their pieces (signature is scratched in). Each of the ten beautiful shell inlaid birds is unique, each shell color is has a Sterling silver separator. The naja features two birds and four flowers in a double arch. This piece is spectacular. All set in Sterling silver strung with bench beads and finished with a handcrafted hook and eye. This piece was paintstakingly handcrafted. The naja 3.25 inches tall x 3.75 inches wide hangs from a 30 inch long necklace. The earrings are clip-ons and the little birds are .75 inches tall x 1.125 inches wide. The piece has NOT been restrung and the thick rope chain has stretched over all these years.
