Native American Navajo Made Cross with Turquoise
Description
Native American Navajo Made Cross with Turquoise
This cross pendant comes from the Spaniards. In the 1600s the Conquistadors wore these pendants for protection. They also had them on their horses to protect the horse and rider. The Natives adopted this piece because it reminded them of the North Star. It was not until later, that they adopted it as a Christian symbol as well. This significant cross is set with eleven Kingman turquoise stonesaccented by larger silver balls. An unknown Navajo silversmith created this piece of wearable art. Pendant has an integrated hook for a bail on the back.
