Native American Navajo Made Cross with Coral

Description

Native American Navajo Made Cross with Coral by Pauline Nelson

This cross pendant comes from the Spaniards. In the 1600s the Conquistadors wore these pendants for protection. They also had them on their horses to protect the horse and rider. The Natives adopted this piece because it reminded them of the North Star. It was not until later, that they adopted it as a Christian symbol as well. This cross was created using the sand casting method and is set with a single Pacific coral stone. Navajo silversmith Pauline Nelson created this piece of wearable art. Pendant has an integrated bail and comes on a twenty inch long chain.
