Native American Hopi Made Sifter Basket with Wooden Ring
Description
Native American Hopi Made Sifter Basket with Wooden Ring
Women on all three mesas make plaited sifter baskets. These baskets are made by plaiting yucca fibers, either natural or dyed, to achieve many designs. Many of the Hopi wickers, coils, and sifters are used for social or ceremonial purposes. This sifter was woven on a wooden ring. Thhis makes the basket shape more organic and it is more difficult to create. A nod by the artist to the "old ways" of creating this practical art form.
