Native American Hopi Carved Piki Craver Kachina Doll (Katsina Doll)
Description
Native American Hopi Carved Piki Craver Katsina Doll by Aaron Honanie
Piki Craver (Wah-uh-uh Piki Sona) carries a staff to lean on in order to eat Piki more comfortably. He originates from the village of Shungopavi and his main responsibility is to pester the Ogres who are negotiating to take either the children or the food that is offered by their families. The Piki Craver steals the piki and eats it quickly so the Ogres have to accept that the Piki Craver has eaten their food instead of taking the children away. This is an absolutely beautiful piece by Aaron Honanie; the folds in the clothing are incredible. This older piece even has a carved base, unusual for pieces carved at that time. Hopi carvers who enter the shop stop to admire this piece.
