Native American Hopi Carved Eagle Dancer Katsina Sculpture
Description
Native American Hopi Carved Eagle Dancer Katsina Sculpture by Troy Quimayousie
Eagle (Kwahu) appears most often with the Mudheads in the Kiva or Repeat Dances of early March. His dance mimics the actions and motions of eagles and serves as a prayer for an increase in eagle populations. Eagles hold a unique and honored place among the Hopi, treated as guests and even given presents, much like Hopi children. The Native American Eagle Dancer is also believed to be a messenger between the people and their spirit guides. This beautifully carved sculpture features a pueblo scene with the kiva ladder in the front. The back displays a Sunface shining above the Sun Clan house, which sits at the base.
