Native American Hopi Carved Navajo Dancer Katsina Doll

Description

Native American Hopi Carved Navajo Dancer Katsina Doll by Lauren Honyouti

Navajo (Tasap) is a Katsina who honors the Navajo people. The Tasap is a messenger to the gods and one of his tasks is to bring rain. Tasap appears during Angak'wa and the summer Katsina day dances. Since they are meant to represent the Navajo, their songs may have some Navajo words speaking of the good things of life and/or words representing moisture. This is a beautiful older piece by Lauren. This carving came from a private collection and it is pristine, with the classic Honyouti painted base.
