Zuni Carved Bear Fetish by Daryl Shack Sr.

This large bear with his sweet face was carved by Zuni artist Daryl Shack Sr. from Sunburst sandstone. When Darryl finds these rocks, the rock speaks to him and he leaves much of these carvings in the natural formation of the stone. The bear is accented with petroglyphs etched into his sides, ice opal eyes and finished with an offering bundle of turquoise, coral, and shell. These bundles are meant as a gift offering to the animal spirit. The bundles provide the animal spirit with energy, enhancing its powers and allowing its prayers to be heard more easily. Bear is the guardian of the West. Bear is associated with great strength and is considered to be a powerful healer.
