Native American Acoma Handbuilt and Handpainted Seed Pot
Description
Native American Acoma Handbuilt and Handpainted Seed Pot by Rachel Concho
Wonderful handbuilt and handpainted seed pot by Acoma potter Rachel Concho. This is a beautiful piece of pottery featuring a desert hare on the top surrounded by traditional Acoma designs. Rabbit represents gentleness, charm, and the importance of family. For many Native Americans, rabbit is the special guardian of pregnant women bringing safe childbirth and a long life for the children. In the fall the women would take the seeds for next Spring and place them in these pots and then stack them. These pots would be placed in the corner of their home, stacked so the bottom of one pot would seal the top of the other. This storage technique would save space and keep the rodents from ruining next years' seed crop.
