Mata Ortiz Handbuilt Pot by Dora Quezada

This older (1990s) beautiful handbuilt pot was created by Dora Quezada. The Quezada family is renowned for this 'tejido' (textured) or braided style. The shiny black is achieved by using a mixture of kerosene and graphite and rubbing it into the pot then polishing it with a stone until it glows. The flat black is painted on as a brick red pigment and when it is fired it turns black and matte. A spectacular piece of pottery. Pottery ring included.
