Effigy pots are recreations of ancient vessels that were found in and around the Paquime/Casas Grandes region of Chihuahua, Mexico. It is believed that these pieces were created to depict the birds and animal life that were so important to the people. For many Native Americans, rabbit represents gentleness, charm, and the importance of family. Rabbit is the special guardian of pregnant women bringing safe childbirth and a long life for the children. This sweet piece has wonderful accents of etching on the classic black-on-black pottery.
