Mata Ortiz Handbuilt and Handpainted Pot with Dragonflies by Laura Quezada

This piece was handbuilt and handpainted then etched by Mata Ortiz resident Laura Quezada. This beautiful pot is covered with etched dragonflies between vertical flowering vines on a matt black painted surface. The dragonfly appears in summer and is an indication that water is near. They are a celebration of the summer rains that are prayed for in the arid southwestern desert. Pottery ring included.
