Effigy pots are recreations of ancient vessels that have been found in many puebloan areas. It is believed that these pieces were created to depict the birds and animal life that were so important to the people. This wonderful fish effigy was handbuilt and handpainted by Mata Ortiz resident Paty Ortiz. It has beautiful geometric patterns. All this beautiful work is on a surface of marbled clay.
