Mata Ortiz Handbuilt and Handpainted Pot
Description
Mata Ortiz Handbuilt and Handpainted Pot by Moroni Quezada
This wonderful pot was handbuilt and handpainted by Mata Ortiz resident Moroni Quezada. A spectacular piece with pristine painting on a beautiful black background. The glossy black is achieved by rubbing a mixture of kerosene and graphite into the clay and polishing it with a stone until it shines. The photo does not do this pot justice; it is spectacular to look at and when it is held, feels perfect to the touch. Moroni cut an ancient shape that was a doorway opening into the top of this pot, and he cut the notch off center, just like a doorway. The pot has a square top; also unusual. This pot is so perfectly made that it stands on its own. We include the stand to protect the bottom of the pot.
