Mata Ortiz Handbuilt and Handetched Day of the Dead Pot
Description
Mata Ortiz Handbuilt and Handetched Day of the Dead Pot by Emiliano Rodriguez
This wonderful large pot was handbuilt and handetched by Mata Ortiz resident Emiliano Rodriguez. This pot shows female and male skeletons dancing in a graveyard under a full "rabbit" moon. This graveyard is next to the rail line, and in this case, a train is coming down the tracks during their celebration. They are celebrating Day of the Dead (Día de Muertos), a holiday celebrated throughout Mexico, in the Central and South regions, and acknowledged around the world in other cultures. The holiday focuses on family and friends gathering to pray for and remember those who have died, and help support their spiritual journey. Pottery stand included.
