This wonderful pot was handbuilt and handetched by Mata Ortiz resident Abel Lopez. This pot shows skeletons dressed in formal wear in a churchyard. They are celebrating Day of the Dead (Día de los Muertos), a Mexican holiday celebrated throughout Mexico, in the Central and Southern regions, and acknowledged around the world in other cultures. The holiday focuses on family and friends gathering to pray for and remember those who have died, and to help support their spiritual journey.
