James Poley, born in 1973, is from Bacavi Village, 1st Mesa, AZ. He is of the Reed Clan. He carves in the traditional style out of respect for the old ways. His dolls are not only exceptional in that he has created his own style within the traditional form, but because he also frequently uses scenes and designs important to the Hopi: clouds, rain, corn and prayer feathers. James has been influenced by the work of Orin Poley Jr., Alvin James Makya and Cecil Caliumptewa.
